If you are looking for a unique and offbeat destination in Rajasthan, you might want to visit Kuldhara, a ghost village about 17 kilometres west of Jaisalmer. Kuldhara was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins, who were known for their agricultural skills and wealth. However, in the early 19th century, the village was suddenly abandoned by its residents for unknown reasons. Some say it was because of a severe drought, some say it was because of an earthquake, and some say it was because of the tyranny of a local minister who wanted to marry a Paliwal girl against her will. Whatever the reason, the villagers left behind a curse that no one would ever be able to settle in Kuldhara again.
Things to see:
Today, Kuldhara is a heritage site maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. You can see the ruins of the houses, temples, wells, and streets that once witnessed the life and culture of the Paliwals. You can also visit the museum that displays the artifacts and information about the history and significance of the village. Kuldhara is said to be haunted by the spirits of the departed villagers, and many people have reported paranormal activities and eerie sounds at night. If you are brave enough, you can even stay overnight at the village and experience the thrill of being in a haunted place.
